What's Up? Facebook Buys WhatsApp for $19 Billion + Stock

by David Brown

Have you ever heard of WhatsApp?

450 Million are using the mobile service every month, and they are on target to reach over 1 billion people.

That's why Facebook decided to buy them according to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO.

Instant  messaging is hot, and 70% of the 450 million WhatsApp users are active every day.

Facebook has established itself not only as the top social network, but also a partner and owner of other cutting edge social media programs such as Instagram. By adding the talent and resources of other strategic companies to their overall business plan, they are following the path of Google who bought Youtube, Blogger, Feedburner, and other companies.

This is not the last of the social media acquisitions that we will see. It's an exciting time for growth and expansion in this industry.
